Another example of an SMD reed switch application are small electronic pills (11mm x 26mm and weighing less than 4 grams) containing tiny video camera’s, which provide a minimally invasive diagnostic tool to improve visual imaging of e.g. the small intestine. When the pill is processing, it takes videos used to diagnose patients. The reed switch is used to activate the pill, which in turn sends wireless downloads of the data collected from the camera to the user.
